5 HABITS THE REST OF THE WORLD CAN LEARN FROM JAPANESE CULTURE - sorate

5 HABITS THE REST OF THE WORLD CAN LEARN FROM JAPANESE CULTURE

May 03, 2021

.
Japan is one of the safest and cleanest countries, and its inhabitants live longer than anywhere else in the world.
.
.
1. MORNING EXERCISE
Every morning Japanese citizens, young and old, would gather to perform a short circuit of dynamic stretches, joint mobility drills, and bodyweight exercises in time to broadcasted piano music.
.
.
2. APPRECIATING TIME
Persistent acknowledgment of the passage of time is ingrained into the Japanese culture. The Japanese tea ceremony celebrates passage of time by varying the utensils and layout of the room based on the seasons. The inner human experience, wabi (侘び), is connected with the outer human experience, sabi (寂), by carefully examining the ceremonious, seasonal objects, and reflecting on the singularity of that moment in time.
.
.
3. INSTANTANEOUS REFLECTION
Hansei (反省) is a term that translates to reflection. A hanseikai (evaluation meeting) is a large part of the Japanese business practice.
.
.
4. TAKE PLEASURE IN THE SIMPLE THINGS
Whether eating, drinking tea or choosing home decor, simplicity is key. Enjoying a meal is a relaxing and leisurely experience. The Japanese take pride in their rituals. Since the culture has a deep love and respect for nature, greenery is a staple in their minimalist interior design.
.
.
5. EAT WELL
Healthy choices are ingrained into their everyday lives. Aside from having universal health care, Japanese people eat small portions of lower-calorie foods like fish and vegetables and they always make time for Matcha Tea.

JAPANESE CULTURE IS FILLED WITH RICH TRADITIONS BASED ON MUTUAL RESPECT AND SIMPLICITY.

Mezcal Matcha Margarita

April 30, 2021

Prep time: 5 minutes

Calories: 195 per serving

When celebrating CINCO DE MAYO is there really any other choice than a tequila cocktail? This year, whether you opt for a traditional margarita or shake things up with a smokey Mezcal Matcha Margarita, we have got you covered with a recipe below.

MATCHA is a healthy and delicious addition to margaritas.

In this version, traditionally-used tequila is traded for mezcal, a Mexican liquor, it imparts a complex, earthy, smokey flavor.

ONE CLICK SHOP

INGREDIENTS:

1 1/2 fl oz Mezcal

3/4 fl oz Triple Sec Liqueur

3/4 fl oz Lime juice (freshly squeezed)

2 Jalapeño slices (seeds removed)

1/6 fl oz Agave Syrup

1/2 pinch salt

1/2 teaspoon Matcha

INSTRUCTIONS:

1)  Rim your glass with lime juice by cutting a 1/4" slit into a quarter of a lime and running it around the lip of the glass until the entire surface is evenly damp.

2)  Place salt in a shallow bowl and run the rim of the glass through the salt.

3)  In a cocktail shaker, muddle jalapeño slices (leaving a handful for garnish), then add the ice.

4)  Combine remaining margarita ingredients. Shake for about 30 seconds, until the shaker feels cold in your hands. Using a strainer, pour the mixture directly into prepared glass, and garnish with jalapeños and a lime if desired. Enjoy!

.
Sorate Matcha
.
What is the first thing you do when you wake up?
The first thing I do in the morning is check in on my pet guinea pigs, Fred and Ethel. They get a special vitamin C treat every morning, so they always greet me with excited squeaks. It's an adorable start to the day that never fails to make me smile.

What actions and rituals do you focus on to keep you grounded?
Tea is definitely the main ritual that keeps me grounded. It is meditative yet energizing at the same time. I also make sure to go for a long walk at least once a day. Fresh air and sunshine are vital to my mental and physical well-being.

Can you list five things you are grateful for in the morning?
1. A roof over my head and food in my belly
2. My amazing husband
3. Supportive family and friends
4. My health
5. Getting to do what I love every day

A good technique to start your day is to read for 5 minutes, write for five minutes and meditate for five minutes. Suggest what would you read and what would you write about?
I would read Every Day a Good Day by Morishita Noriko. It has 15 short chapters with lessons on happiness from Japanese tea culture. My morning writing is usually a bit of a freeform brain dump. It really helps to write down what is on my mind.

What morning ritual would you like to impart to others?
Tea! Take the time to make matcha or brew a cup of loose leaf tea and enjoy it slowly. It's truly the best way to start the day..

How do you think Sorate could fit into your morning ritual?
Matcha is such an effective mood lifter. Shaking up a bottle of Sorate in the morning makes it easy to start off on the right foot.
