Keiko Kitazawa is an Omotesenke-style tea ceremony (Chanoyu) instructor, inaugural member of the Omotesenke Domonkai Eastern Region, USA.
She encourages her students to look beyond the routine practice of protocols, and reminds them that"Chaji", the formal tea gathering, is the ultimate manifestation of chanoyu's central concept: hospitality of the host to serve delicious tea in graceful manner and serene environment and to share a spiritually rich moment with the guests.
Taking time out of a busy day, sitting in a tearoom, emptying the mind of thoughts, listening to the sound of water boiling in the teakettle, and drinking a bowl of tea is such an exquisite pleasure.
The ceremony is free and will last 1 hour.
Keiko will perform the tea ceremony, and introduce you to the world of Matcha. Touching upon Zen and century old Japanese traditions. There is a lot more to tea ceremony than meets the eye!
WHAT DO YOU NEED?
You do not need anything to join our online tea ceremony, but if you have Matcha you can join in.
If you have Matcha, a matcha glass bottle shaker or a suitable sized teabowl or cup, and whisk, please have them ready (with some boiled water).

Matcha, like champagne, is crafted from specific cultivars, each contributing unique flavors. Sorate offers four cultivars: Yabukita (balanced, vibrant green), Samidori (deep green, mild), Asahi (rare, rich, creamy), and Okumidori (umami, bright green).
Single Cultivar matcha showcases one cultivar's traits, preferred by enthusiasts. Blended Cultivar matcha combines multiple cultivars for a balanced flavor, appealing to a broader audience. At Sorate, our diverse matchas highlight these unique flavors and qualities for a distinctive matcha experience.
