Sorate Matcha
.
What is the first thing you do when you wake up?
The first thing I do in the morning is check in on my pet guinea pigs, Fred and Ethel. They get a special vitamin C treat every morning, so they always greet me with excited squeaks. It's an adorable start to the day that never fails to make me smile.

What actions and rituals do you focus on to keep you grounded?
Tea is definitely the main ritual that keeps me grounded. It is meditative yet energizing at the same time. I also make sure to go for a long walk at least once a day. Fresh air and sunshine are vital to my mental and physical well-being.

Can you list five things you are grateful for in the morning?
1. A roof over my head and food in my belly
2. My amazing husband
3. Supportive family and friends
4. My health
5. Getting to do what I love every day

A good technique to start your day is to read for 5 minutes, write for five minutes and meditate for five minutes. Suggest what would you read and what would you write about?
I would read Every Day a Good Day by Morishita Noriko. It has 15 short chapters with lessons on happiness from Japanese tea culture. My morning writing is usually a bit of a freeform brain dump. It really helps to write down what is on my mind.

What morning ritual would you like to impart to others?
Tea! Take the time to make matcha or brew a cup of loose leaf tea and enjoy it slowly. It's truly the best way to start the day..

How do you think Sorate could fit into your morning ritual?
Matcha is such an effective mood lifter. Shaking up a bottle of Sorate in the morning makes it easy to start off on the right foot.

 Glass Bottle

What is the first thing you do when you wake up?

The first thing I do when I wake up is take my dog for a walk in the park. I like to get out in the sun and fresh air first thing to start the day. I’m grateful to have him! He keeps me motivated. While I am on the walk I try to set my intentions for the day.

What actions and rituals do you focus on to keep you grounded?

I try to talk to my family almost every day on the phone. They are the kindest people and it reminds me to focus on the happiness of others more often. I also try to remember to breathe throughout the day, walk barefoot on the earth when I can, meditate, take my vitamins, and take care of my body through plant based foods.

Can you list five things you are grateful for in the morning?

Five things I’m grateful for in the morning:

  1. Access to nutritious foods.
  2. My dog who makes me feel important.
  3. A healthy mind and body.
  4. My friends and family who are just a phone call or train ride away.
  5. Starting each day wiser than I was the day before.

A good technique to start your day is to read for 5 minutes, write for five minutes and meditate for five minutes. Suggest what would you read and what would you write about?

I would read what I’m reading now, The Doors of Perception by Aldous Huxley - it’s really expanding my view of the universe and time. I would write about things I am grateful for at that moment.

What morning ritual would you like to impart to others?

I think everyone could benefit from healing affirmations in the morning, like saying to yourself “there is no one in the world like me, I love me” or “you are doing the best you can right now and that is amazing.” As well as setting intentions for how you want your day to unfold.

How do you think Sorate will fit into your morning ritual?

Sorate matcha helps my body and mind feel nourished. Energized but not anxious. I feel like I’m doing something very special for myself. Taking time to make something sacred versus using a machine to make the fastest coffee possible. I’m excited to return home from my morning walk to a perfect matcha and to move gracefully through the day.

My Morning Ritual with Guillaume Coutheillas

-Founder of frenchCALIFORNIA

Guillaume Coutheillas is a Paris-born branding and luxury expert based in San Francisco and New York. With more than ten years of experience in consulting for top-tier, household names in the real estate, hospitality, lifestyle and medical sectors.

frenchCALIFORNIA, founded by Coutheillas in 2016, is a marketing and design house that works with brands to elevate their identity, propel public awareness and drive sales.

We sat down with Guillaume in the gorgeous Fifteen Fifty and asked him a few questions about his morning ritual, see below:

What is the first thing you do when you wake up?

I am lucky to have a yard, so every morning, as I let the dog out, I try to medicate and clear my mind for the rest of the day. I look at the sky and hear the wind in the trees, birds and noise of the city slowly starting their day and it helps me to ground myself and set myself up for success and productivity.

What actions and rituals do you focus on to keep you grounded?

I make it a point to immerse myself in nature even if that means just going into the backyard for just a few minutes every day. Keeping a connection with nature by spending time with animals, mostly my dog, is important for my overall well-being and helps separate "me" time from work time, especially now that we're largely working from home. I also try to keep up with my Yoga practice.

Can you list five things you are grateful for in the morning?

The fact that every morning is different in some way, whether it be the light coming from outside, the temperature, the breeze, etc. Very grateful for my dog who keeps me active and in nature. My yard, filled with growing flowers and plants, helps bring nature to me. The radio, mainly NPR, to keep me informed and entertained while at home, and my quiet come which gives me some time just for myself.

A good technique to start your day is to read for 5 minutes, write for five minutes and meditate for five minutes. Suggest what would you read and what would you write about?

I read anything but the news these days, as i've been trying to "news fast" for the last year for the sake of my mental health. I read the daily essays my dad sends me from Paris.

What morning ritual would you like to impart to others?

I recommend people spend 5 minutes by their window, on their stoop or fire escape - anything, however small if may be, that gives them access to the outside in some form.

How do you think Sorate will fit into your morning ritual?

I'm trying to cut down on my caffeine intake and now mostly drink decaf coffee. I can foresee Matcha becoming a great replacement as I continue this practice.

disappointed

disappointed after trying this matcha directly after finishing my rockys osada tin. i was excited since this is supposed to be “the spot” to get matcha in nyc so i was expecting it to be good. its not bad its just average and honestly pretty chalky/grainy textured even afer fine sifting and whisking well. and theres an unpleasant bitter taste especially towards the bottom of my drink even after mixing and shaking it around to keep it from separating. i would definitely stick to ippodo and rockys in the future.
