ABOUT THE ARTIST SAWAMI AOKI
Raised in Osaka, Japan, Sawami was immersed in the world of traditional Japanese arts from a young age, thanks to her mother's teachings in the tea ceremony and Ikebana (traditional Japanese flower arrangement).
She honed her skills at Shukugawa Gakuin in Kobe, where her talent shone through, earning her numerous awards for her designs, oil paintings, and other artistic endeavors.
In 2016, Sawami showcased her prowess as a ceramic artist by clinching the 3rd place prize at the esteemed 17th Tokyo New York Ceramics Competition.
Four years later, in 2020, the Urasenke New York branch paid tribute to Sawami's talent by personally presenting her tea caddy, marking a significant occasion—the succession of the next grandmaster, Mr. Takafumi Sen of the Urasenke, in Kyoto, Japan.
