WHITE BAMBOO - STRAIGHT EDGES
The Chasen, or "tea whisk," is an intricately designed tool that gracefully blends powdered tea with hot water. Achieving exceptional Matcha requires an equally exceptional Chasen, meticulously handcrafted from carefully chosen bamboo.
A Chasen originating from Takayama truly embodies authenticity, boasting a delicate finish and suppleness in its bamboo fibers that vastly outshines the inferior quality of cheaper imported whisks. The key to crafting these exceptional, delicate yet durable whisks lies in utilizing the most flexible Japanese bamboo to its fullest potential.
Meet Tango Tanimura, a member of the esteemed Tanimura family, which has dedicated nearly five centuries to producing tea whisks in their town. Takayama has remained the hub of tea whisk craftsmanship in Japan for over five hundred years. Among the 13 families granted surnames by the Tokugawa government during the Edo Period (1603-1867), the Tanimura family stands as one of the last three remaining.
Heading the 20th generation of the Tanimura lineage, Tango Tanimura has impeccably mastered the ancestral techniques of production, passed down through generations from father to son, just as his predecessors did.
